Apart from studying hard and choosing a good IIT JEE coaching class, a student must follow a proper strategy to make it to the IIT. We all have read several websites and blogs about these strategies, but the experience of those who have been teaching matters the most. We have given below some tips by few professors who are recognized as the best teachers in the IIT JEE Arena.
- In Prime Academy Pune The first few minutes of every lecture are spent on the very basic concepts, which can be grasped easily by any student.
- Thereafter, a few simple problems are discussed to make students comfortable with a new topic. The basic concept is delivered with such precision that students solve simple problems quite comfortably, boosting their confidence.
- Gradually we start twisting those simple problems and let students do some mind grueling. This is the most important stage and needs to be executed by a competent and experienced faculty only.
- After every lecture, students are given home assignments for further cementing of concepts and practice. Surprise unit tests keep them on their toes. To get rid of any loose links, frequent revision lectures are incorporated.
- Ranking displayed after every monthly mock exam encourages student to keep abreast with competition. Students are counseled as per their performance to get the best out of them.
Lalit Kumar, CMD Prime Academy Pune has 11 years of teaching mathematics and physics to IIT JEE aspirants and he shared few of his experiences about JEE physics and Mathematics. When a student is going through a topic for the first time, he must try to understand and grasp as much as he can. Once a significant portion is completed he realizes that there are few topics he is not very comfortable with. There can be various reasons for this. May be he missed out the lecture, or may be he didn’t revise those topics or may be he didn’t understand some fundamental point. At Prime Academy Pune, we make sure the student gets back to these left out topics, but not at the cost of currently taught topics. We have seen many students who jump on previous topics and start ignoring one which is currently going in the IIT JEE coaching class lectures. Subsequently they don’t understand current topics and backlog keeps on increasing. Ideally he should concentrate on current topics and if time permits go to previous topics.
After the completion of Full JEE syllabus many students get bogged down by looking at the list of those topics which are little dicey. One must understand that even All India Rank 1 is not comfortable with all topics. You can very safely choose a list of 15% topics which you are not comfortable with and very royally ignore them without going in details. Just ensure that you can solve basic formula based questions of these topics.
Here is a list of topics which can be ignored, if at all you are not comfortable.
Physics :
- Rotational Motion: It’s a giant topic and relatively difficult. Considering the fact that it requires huge time for preparation, and hardly any weightage is given to this topic in JEE Mains and JEE advance, this topic can be ignored if not understood completely.
- There are few more topics like fluids, Projectile which are independent topics and usually are not linked with other topics.
There is a list of important topic in Physics from the point of JEE mains and advance, which should be thoroughly studied:
- Young’s double slit experiment: This is a topic which hardly takes any time for understanding but will surely fetch you few marks in exams as almost every year few problems are asked from this experiment.
- Electrostatics, Current, Magnetism, EMI: These are the versatile and major section of JEE mains and JEE advance is based on these topics. Apart from these competitive exams, these chapters are very important from the point of CBSE and ICSE board exams as well.
- Modern Physics and Thermodynamics: These topics will give you double benefit as they are asked in Physics as well as chemistry. Another advantage is, problems asked from modern physics are very simple and formula based.
- Waves: Problems asked from waves are very simple and formula based.
- Experimental Physics: Since JEE 2006 there is a trend of many questions being asked from this topic and they are very straight forward.
Mathematics:
- Permutation Combination and Probability: If you haven’t understood these topics then you may skip it just by solving few simple formula based problems. This chapter is usually not linked with other topics to design problems
- Complex number: This topic is also quite isolated and relatively less important.
- Trigonometry: In case you don’t have flair to solve trigonometric problems then just go through the formulae and practice some basic problems
There is a list of important topic in Mathematics from the point of JEE mains and advance, which should be thoroughly studied:
- Calculus: Major chunk of JEE mains and JEE advance paper is full of calculus and calculus rules almost complete board exam as well. Make sure that irrespective of your interest in this topic, you work hard and get a good grasp over it.
After the completion of course while taking revision we give them the option of leaving few topics to increase efficiency.
